The Dayton Mandolin Orchestra played its inaugural concert on Sunday, Dec. 5, at the Dave Finkelman Auditorium on the campus of Miami University-Middletown. Nearly two hundred people attended the concert, whose theme was "The Versatile Mandolin". The orchestra includes four musicians from Yellow Springs: Michael Hitchcock, mandola; Yvonne Wingard, mandocello; Michael Ruddell, double bass; and R. Michael Triplett, double bass. Allen Richmond is the orchestra's music director and conductor.

The ensemble will resume rehearsals in January, and holds open practices the first, second and third Tuesdays of the month from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Normandy United Methodist Church, 450 West Alex-Bell Pike in Dayton.
